

Dali University is an ordinary institution of higher learning jointly established by provinces and prefectures. Its predecessor was Dali Medical College and Dali Teachers College, which was established in 1978. In 2001, the two universities merged to form Dali University. In 2003, it was approved as a master's degree awarding unit. In 2015, it was renamed Dali University. After 42 years' accumulation, the school has developed into a comprehensive university characterized by medicine and ethnic culture, interdisciplinary integration and multi-level coordinated development. It is the earliest established university in Yunnan province, which is located in a non-provincial capital city, and has the right to grant master's degree and newly added doctoral degree in provincial-level project construction.
The school is located in Dali, the central city of western Yunnan. The campus covers an area of more than 2,300 mu, with three campuses, namely Gucheng and Xiaguan. The school is known as "the university in the landscape and the landscape in the university" because of its green grass, birds and flowers.
There are 17 teaching colleges and 10 affiliated hospitals in the school, with 73 undergraduate majors, 6 first-class master's degree authorization points, 43 master's degree authorization points in two disciplines and 7 master's degree authorization points. The school has gathered more than 160 national, provincial and ministerial-level high-level talents, including the winners of the first prize for national innovation, the first prize and second prize for national scientific and technological progress, the leading talents of national "Ten Thousand Talents Plan" for scientific and technological innovation, distinguished professor, a Changjiang Scholar of the Ministry of Education, and the winner of the National Science Fund for Outstanding Young People. At present, there are more than 20 scientific research platforms at or above the provincial level, such as the National Local Joint Engineering Research Center for the Development of Medicinal Special Insects, the National Collaborative Innovation Experimental Base for Teacher Development, and the National Ethnic Theory and Policy Research Base of the National Ethnic Affairs Commission. More than 50 innovative teams at the school level have been trained and more than 20 innovative teams at the provincial and ministerial levels have been approved.
In the past five years, the University has won more than 200 national self-funded projects, national social science fund projects and humanities and social science projects of the Ministry of Education, among which in 2019, the number of religious studies of national social science fund projects was tied for the first place in China with Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. He has published more than 100 academic papers in top international journals such as Nature Communication, and won more than 30 provincial and ministerial-level teaching and scientific research achievement awards such as the second prize of national teaching achievement and the first prize of scientific and technological progress in Yunnan Province. Undergraduate and graduate students have won more than 50 awards in various disciplines competitions in China.
Since 2006, the University has successively won the first prize for employment of college graduates in Yunnan Province; In 2008, he got excellent conclusions in the evaluation of undergraduate teaching level in the Ministry of Education; In 2009, it was rated as one of the 50 universities with typical experience in graduate employment in China; In 2015, it was named "National Civilized Unit"; In 2018, it was fully affirmed and praised by the expert group of the Ministry of Education in the undergraduate teaching audit and evaluation.
For a long time, the University has adhered to the service orientation of "based on Dali, serving western Yunnan, facing Yunnan and surrounding provinces, radiating South Asia and Southeast Asia", focusing on the needs of regional economic and social development, and devoted itself to personnel training, scientific research, cultural inheritance and innovation, international cooperation and exchange. The school's effectiveness and characteristics are constantly showing, and it has made positive contributions to expanding Dali's influence, enhancing its popularity and promoting regional economic and social development. First, it is rooted in western Yunnan, which provides talent support for the economic and social development of western Yunnan border ethnic areas. In the past 42 years, the school has been adhering to the initial intention of "changing the situation of lack of medical care and medicine and backward education in western Yunnan", closely combining the unique location and resource advantages of Yunnan Province and western Yunnan, constantly tapping the characteristics of disciplines and specialties, innovating the talent training mode, and cultivating more than 150,000 high-quality talents who can get down, stay, use and play a role, of which 80% graduates stay in frontier minority areas such as western Yunnan.
