College of Science & Technology Ningbo University is a full-time regular institution of higher learning approved by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and the People's Government of Zhejiang Province, offering undergraduate-level degree education. The school was established in April 1999 and is the first state-owned privately-run secondary college in Zhejiang Province to conduct a pilot program for the reform of the higher education system. In November 2004, it was confirmed by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China as one of the first independent colleges in Zhejiang Province. In December of the same year, it passed the special inspection on school conditions and teaching work by the Ministry of Education and received the highest-level evaluation. In 2010, the school was awarded the title of one of the first batch of "National Advanced Independent Colleges". In July 2018, the school successfully passed the acceptance inspection for the standardized establishment of independent colleges in Zhejiang Province. In September 2019, the school was relocated as a whole from Zhenhai District, Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province to Cixi City for operation. In 2026, the school ranked 3rd on the Alumni Association's list of independent colleges in China and 4th on the Wu Shulian list of independent colleges in China in terms of comprehensive strength. It also ranked first in Zhejiang Province on both lists.

The school sets up its majors in accordance with the development trends of modern science and technology and the demands of local economic and social development. It has 10 secondary colleges, namely the College of Humanities, the College of Information Engineering, the College of Economics and Law, the College of Management, the College of Design and Art, the College of Life Science and Materials Chemistry, the College of Mechanical Engineering and Automation, the College of Architecture and Civil Engineering, the College of Basic Sciences/College of Marxism, and the College of Continuing Education. There are 43 undergraduate programs, covering 9 major disciplines including economics, law, education, literature, management, science, engineering, medicine and art, which have basically formed a complete, well-structured and complementary discipline and major system. The school recruits students from all over the country and currently has more than 15,000 full-time students on campus. The school has always adhered to the educational philosophy of "student-centeredness", focusing on cultivating "two-strong" applied undergraduate talents with strong autonomous learning ability and practical ability. It has cumulatively sent more than 50,000 outstanding students to social development. Over the years, the employment rate of graduates, achievements in various subject competitions, and the one-time pass rate of the TEM-4 have consistently ranked among the top in similar institutions. It has won the gold medal for five consecutive years in the China International College Students Innovation Competition, leading similar institutions across the country in terms of performance. In the 19th "Challenge Cup" National College Students' Extracurricular Academic and Technological Works Competition, it was shortlisted for the final round and won the Special prize in the "Artificial Intelligence +" special Competition. It won the only gold medal among independent colleges in the province in the first National College Students' New Liberal Arts Practice and Innovation Competition.

The school adheres to the development path of being application-oriented, regional and characteristic. Since the relocation and establishment of the school in Cixi, it has been more proactive in integrating into the local economy and actively exploring and practicing the "dual-wheel drive" model of industry-education integration development. That is, by building high-quality modern industrial colleges and high-level applied research institutes, it provides driving force for the application-oriented construction and promotes the school's education and teaching, talent cultivation, scientific research and local services in a coordinated manner. The school has attracted nearly 300 million yuan in social donations in total. It has jointly established 12 industry colleges, 2 industry-specific colleges, 18 characteristic industry classes (including 2 classes for outstanding engineers), and 485 practice bases with the government and regional leading enterprises. It has also formed 5 industry-specific industry-education integration alliances, thus forging a distinctive new path for industry-education integration, school-enterprise cooperation, and application-oriented transformation. Since the "14th Five-Year Plan", two provincial key-supported modern industry colleges, one industry-education integration alliance, two industry-education integration demonstration bases, two industry-education integration engineering projects, and four provincial industry-university collaborative education projects have been successfully approved, achieving a "grand slam" of provincial industry-education integration platform projects. A total of 70 projects for industry-university collaborative education and supply-demand matching employment education have been approved by the Ministry of Education, 3 typical cases of the "School-Enterprise Cooperation and Double Hundred Plan" of the China Higher Education Society, 29 projects of the "Five Batches" platform for industry-education integration in Ningbo City, and 3 projects of the Ningbo Industrial Engineer College. It has consecutively ranked first in both the comprehensive ranking and the total amount of funds for the Ningbo Industry-Education Integration Special Fund in 2023 and 2024. The educational model and achievements of the Industry college have been reported many times by mainstream media such as CCTV News, China Education Daily and Zhejiang Daily, playing a good exemplary and leading role. Meanwhile, the school has established high-level research institutes such as the Institute of Applied Technology, the Institute of Regional Economic and Social Development/Institute of Regional and Country Studies, and has jointly built 8 laboratories, medical engineering intelligent manufacturing research centers, and collaborative innovation centers with high-tech enterprises and medical institutions such as Zhongda Lide, Tiansheng Sealing Parts, Ningbo Second Hospital, and the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Harbin Engineering University. Jointly build a smart home appliance science and education innovation park with the home appliance characteristic town; Jointly build a trusted blockchain platform for home appliances in Ningbo with Alibaba; Jointly establish the "Translation on the Silk Road - Translation Research and Language Service Center" with the Translation Center of the Foreign Affairs Office of Gansu Province. It has undertaken 6 major special projects of Ningbo's "Science and Technology Innovation 2025", 15 series projects of "Science and Technology Innovation Ningbo 2035", and 2 key research and development plans and "Challenge and Response" projects. It has been approved for the Zhejiang Province Smart Home Appliance Industry Brain, Zhejiang Province Soft Science Research Base, Ningbo City University Collaborative Innovation Center, Ningbo City Industrial Internet Demonstration Platform and other scientific and technological innovation platforms. We will continue to deepen multi-faceted and multi-level cooperation among schools, governments and enterprises, empower industrial development and create a win-win situation.

The school actively promotes open education, continuously optimizes its layout and gathers resources, and its capacity and level of internationalized education have steadily improved. The undergraduate education program in advertising jointly held with Juniata College in the United States has been officially approved by the Ministry of Education. The "Small Household Appliances XIN E-commerce Silk Road College" has been selected as one of the "Belt and Road 'Silk Road Colleges'" in Zhejiang Province for 2025. Jointly establish the Ningbo "Belt and Road" Spanish Language and Culture Center and the "Belt and Road" Ningbo Tourism Culture Communication and Research Center with the School of Hotel Management of the University of the Balic Islands in Spain. Jointly with the Research Institute of China Language Resources Development and Application Center, the first international Chinese language examination and training center in Ningbo City was established. At present, the school has established long-term and stable friendly cooperative relations with over 50 universities (institutions) in many countries and regions such as the UK, the US, Spain, South Korea, Japan and Thailand, and has built a multi-level and diversified international education cooperation system including Sino-foreign cooperative education, integrated undergraduate and postgraduate programs, and mutual recognition of credits. In the newly released "2024 Annual Report on the Internationalization Development of Higher Education in Zhejiang Province", the overall internationalization level of the school ranks first among independent colleges in the province.
