Chuxiong Normal University is a full-time undergraduate college in Yunnan Province. In May 2001, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was established by the merger of Chuxiong Teachers College and Chuxiong Normal University for Nationalities. The origin of running a school can be traced back to the provincial Zhennan Normal School established in 1936. It is an institution of higher learning with glorious revolutionary tradition and distinctive characteristics of normal education. The school is located in Chuxiong City, the state capital of weichu, Yunnan Province, more than 100 kilometers away from Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province, with convenient transportation and beautiful campus environment.

In 2009, the University was awarded the title of "National Civilized Unit" by the Central Civilization Committee, and in 2014, it was listed as a national project unit of "Excellent Primary School Teacher Training Program Reform Project" by the Ministry of Education. In 2015, it was approved as a pilot university for the application-oriented overall transformation and reform of local universities in Yunnan Province. In 2016, "Pedagogy" was selected as the first-class discipline (plateau discipline) construction project in Yunnan Province. In the same year, it was awarded the honorary title of "Model School of Socialist Core Values" by the University Working Committee of Yunnan Provincial Party Committee, and in 2017, it was awarded the title of "National Civilized Campus" by the Central Civilization Committee. In the same year, it was awarded as a normal college in Yunnan Province with the qualification of recruiting and training public-funded normal students. In 2018, it successfully passed the undergraduate teaching examination and evaluation of the Ministry of Education. In the same year, it was approved as the construction unit of "Yunnan Primary and Secondary School Teachers' Moral Education Research Center". In 2021, it was selected as one of the two schools in Yunnan Province with the enrollment qualification of the special plan for local excellent teachers. Up to now, more than 70,000 graduates have been trained for the society. Since the first graduates, the school has won the first prize of the target responsibility assessment for employment and entrepreneurship of college graduates in Yunnan Province for 12 consecutive years, and won the honorary title of "Advanced Collective for Employment of College Graduates" in Yunnan Province for 14 consecutive years.

The University recruits full-time undergraduate students from 25 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government), with 15,407 full-time undergraduate students in school. At present, there are 10 secondary colleges offering 58 full-time undergraduate majors, including 21 normal majors, 1 national-level specialty, 1 national-level first-class specialty construction site, 9 provincial-level first-class specialty construction sites, and 5 provincial-level dominant specialty. In terms of discipline construction, there is one first-class discipline (Class B plateau discipline) in Yunnan province, one key discipline with advantages and characteristics in Yunnan province, four disciplines for cultivating and constructing master's degree authorization points at provincial level, and eight key disciplines with advantages and characteristics at school level. In terms of teaching achievements, the school won 1 second prize of national teaching achievements, 2 first prizes of provincial teaching achievements, 289 items of 27 categories of "undergraduate teaching projects" at or above the provincial level, 107 national awards and 548 provincial awards for students' professional competitions in various disciplines; In terms of curriculum construction, there are 7 provincial-level excellent courses.

The University adheres to the idea of strengthening the school with talents, and vigorously introduces high-level talents such as academic leaders, academic and technical leaders and doctors. Since 2013, it has jointly trained postgraduate students with Yunnan University, Yunnan Normal University, Kunming University of Science and Technology and other universities. At present, there are 2 doctoral tutors and 36 master tutors, and more than 30 graduate students have been jointly trained.

The University actively implements the research school strategy, and constantly improves the ability of professional construction of scientific research service disciplines and local economic and social development.
