About the University

China West Normal University is a provincial key university directly under Education Department of Sichuan Province, which was established in 1946 and originated from the National Northeastern University during the Anti-Japanese War. It is located in the historically and culturally renowned city Nanchong in Sichuan Province, and currently has two campuses including Beihu Campus and Huafeng Campus, covering an area of more than 200 hectares, and possesses more than 2500 faculty members and 30,000 full-time students composed of junior college students, undergraduates, postgraduates, and international students.

Since its establishment 75 years ago, the university has developed into a comprehensive university with complete disciplines, excellent conditions for school running, a large talent pool of professional teachers, and fruitful teaching and scientific research achievements. It was successfully selected for the National Excellent Talents Education and Training Program, Sichuan Province’s “Double-First Class” Initiative, Excellent Teachers’ Training Program, and the first batch of Government-funded Normal Students’ Training Program. Furthermore, it is confirmed as an authorized unit for granting doctoral degree in the “Tenth Five-Year Plan”, “Eleventh Five-Year Plan”, “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” and “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan”of Sichuan Province. It is also an important basic education teachers’ training base, in-service teachers’ training base as well as basic education and higher education research base in Sichuan Province. It is the first provincial university awarded in China as “the Selection Base for Outstanding College Students in Sichuan Province”.

It currently offers a total of 10 categories, covering 78 undergraduate majors, 18 first-tier disciplines for master's degree, 8 categories for master's professional degree, 8 disciplines for joint cultivation of doctoral students, and 1 post-doctoral innovation practice base. Disciplines like ecology, political science, Chinese language and literature, chemistry, Marxist theory, pedagogy, astronomy, Chinese history have important influence in China. And disciplinary group of ecology and ecological governance, political science and social governance are included in the first-class disciplinary construction in Sichuan Province. Disciplines of Chemistry and Engineering ranks 1% in the global ESI list. There is one key laboratory of the Ministry of Education of China, one key laboratory of Sichuan Province, one engineering laboratory of Sichuan Province, and four key laboratories at Sichuan provincial university level. Two scientific research achievements were selected for the “National Philosophy and Social Science Achievement Library”. And the university has earned more than 90 awards including national, provincial and ministerial scientific and technological progress awards, scientific and technological awards, scientific and technological achievement transformation awards and outstanding social science achievements awards.

China West Normal University insists on opening-up and continuously promotes international exchanges. International cooperation relations have been established with 18 universities and scientific research institutions in the United States, Great Britain, Japan, Hungary, Taiwan Province and so on. And it focuses on recruiting foreign students and language students from countries along the “Belt and Road”, and its international education is beginning to take shape.

Advantages

International College of China West Normal University was established in 2015 and is in charge of the enrollment, and cultivation of foreign students in China West Normal University, the teaching and research of Chinese culture as well as the international promotion of Chinese language.

Currently International College recruits foreign students for undergraduate and postgraduate study with a wide range of majors, including Applied Mathematics, Computer Application Technology, Software Engineering and Chemistry for Master’s degree, while International Economy and Trade, Electronic Information Engineering, Accounting for Bachelor’s degree. From the enrollment in 2019 till now, there are more than 180 foreign undergraduate students and 11 postgraduate students in total.

Since the first enrollment of foreign undergraduate students in 2015, International College has completed the cultivation of more than 50 graduates, among whom 10 continued to pursue Master's Degree and 6 continued to study for Doctor’s Degree. Altogether more than 30% of them successfully received the admission to further study in other universities. Moreover, according to statistics, the employment rate of international graduates reaches 100%.
