China University of Petroleum (East China) is a key national university directly under the Ministry of Education. It is one of the universities that are key construction projects of the "211 Project", carry out the construction of the "985 Project Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform", and have a graduate school. The university is jointly built by the Ministry of Education and the five major energy enterprise groups, as well as the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Shandong Province. It is an important base for cultivating high-level talents in the petroleum and petrochemical industry and is known as the "cradle of petroleum science and technology and management talents". It has now become a university with engineering as its main focus, distinct petroleum and petrochemical characteristics, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines. It was included in the list of universities for the national "Double First-Class" initiative in both 2017 and 2022. In 1981, with the assistance of the United Nations Development Programme and the investment of the Ministry of Petroleum Industry, the school established the "Drilling Technology Training Center of the Ministry of Petroleum Industry". In 1983, it was expanded into the "Exploration and Development Training Center of the Ministry of Petroleum Industry". In 2005, the China National Petroleum Corporation Remote Training Network was established. In 2011, it was approved as a demonstration base for continuing education in higher education institutions by the Ministry of Education. In 2016, the former State Administration of Work Safety established the School of Safety Supervision and Inspection (Qingdao) at our university. In 2017, it was approved as a national continuing education base for professional and technical personnel by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. In 2018, it was selected as a "High-Quality Provincial Vocational Teacher Training Base" by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance. 

Relying on the high-quality educational resources of the university, the Continuing Education College of China University of Petroleum (East China) has deepened the cooperation between the university and enterprises as well as local authorities, and has become an important base for continuing education of employees in the petroleum industry, local governments and enterprises.
