Changsha Medical University is a general higher education institution approved by the Ministry of Education in March 2005, and the first private medical undergraduate college in the country. The predecessor was the Xiangnan Secondary Health Vocational and Technical School founded in 1989 by the representative of the Twelfth National People’s Congress, an advanced worker in the national education system, an outstanding national educator, and principal Professor He Binsheng. In 1996, it was renamed Xiangnan Health Secondary Professional School. In 1999 It was upgraded to Xiangnan Medical College, and in 2001 the school headquarters moved to Changsha City. The School of International Education was established in 2006 and is a teaching unit for the Sino-foreign cooperative education of Changsha Medical University.
