The University started from the Changchun Municipal School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which was established in 1950. Its predecessor was Changchun College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which was established in 1958. It was renamed Changchun University of Chinese Medicine in 2006. The university is a provincial key university in Jilin Province, a university of the basic capacity construction project of colleges and universities in the central and western regions of the country, a university jointly built by the People's Government of Jilin Province and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and a high-level university with Jilin characteristics.
