Baoshan University is located in Baoshan City, Yunnan Province, and its running history can be traced back to Yongchang Normal School founded in 1905. In April 1978, Baoshan Teachers College was established with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In April, 2009, it was upgraded to Baoshan College with the approval of the Ministry of Education, and a provincial-based management system was implemented. In 2013, the school passed the examination and became a bachelor's degree awarding unit. In 2014, the school was selected as one of the first two "Guomen University" basic capacity-building universities in Yunnan Province. In 2015, the school was selected as one of the ten "pilot reform schools for the transformation and development of local universities" in Yunnan Province. In 2017, the school was selected as one of the first six "applied talents training demonstration schools" in Yunnan Province. In 2017, the school was approved by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council as two "Chinese education bases" in Yunnan Province. In the past 43 years, the school has persisted in running schools in "border areas, agriculture areas, small areas and mountains", cultivated and formed the spirit of Baoshan College of "taking root in the border areas, serving the grassroots, pioneering hard, opening up and innovating hard", and walked out of a road of pioneering hard. Adhering to the school motto of "Benevolence, Dedication, Dedication and Dedication", the school has delivered more than 80,000 specialized talents to the society, effectively promoted the local economic, social and cultural development, and made important contributions to national unity and progress, ecological civilization construction and border harmony and stability.

At present, the University has a building area of 267,400 square meters, an area of 152,900 square meters for teaching administration, and a total value of fixed assets of 664,991,400 yuan, of which the total value of teaching and research instruments and equipment is 110,873,500 yuan. There are 1.115 million paper resources, 844,100 e-books and 16,008 kinds of e-journals. The school has 12 secondary colleges with 48 undergraduate majors, covering 9 disciplines of literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, law, management, education and art, and enrolls 12,094 full-time students from 6 provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions) and countries in South Asia and Southeast Asia (by 2021). There are 697 teaching staff, including 648 full-time teachers (including those who are rehired), 78 teachers with doctoral degrees and 385 teachers with master's degrees. Teachers with master's degrees or above account for 74.45% of the total full-time teachers.

Guided by the needs of local economic and social development, the University constantly optimizes the discipline and specialty structure, and the teaching quality is significantly improved. At present, there is one provincial-level applied undergraduate transformation major, two provincial-level characteristic majors, seven provincial-level first-class undergraduate major construction points, three provincial-level excellent courses, one provincial-level bilingual teaching demonstration course, two provincial-level teaching teams, two "10,000-person planned teaching masters", four provincial-level teaching masters, three provincial-level famous teacher studio construction projects, one "Xingbao Talent Award", four Yongchang teaching masters, and 17 tutors for doctoral and master students in foreign schools. There is one provincial-level talent training mode innovation experimental zone, two provincial-level experimental practice training bases and technical innovation service centers, one provincial-level innovation and entrepreneurship education reform pilot college, one national-level innovation and entrepreneurship platform and three provincial-level innovation and entrepreneurship platforms (creating space). Build 176 practice bases such as practical training, innovation and entrepreneurship with domestic foreign enterprises and institutions. In recent years, it has won 1 second prize of National Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award, 3 second prizes of Yunnan Education Teaching Achievement Award and 72 provincial teaching quality and teaching reform projects.

The University adheres to the concept of integration of disciplines and specialties and mutual promotion of teaching and scientific research. Discipline construction and scientific research strongly support and promote the teaching reform and personnel training, and improve the teaching quality and level. At present, there is one first-class discipline (Class B plateau discipline) in Yunnan universities, one philosophy and social science research base in Yunnan province, one engineering research center in Yunnan universities, two key laboratories in Yunnan universities, one scientific and technological innovation team in Yunnan universities, 14 research centers jointly built by universities and places, and six university-level research platforms. The school cooperated with Yunnan Food Safety Research Institute to build "Baoshan Branch of Yunnan Food Safety Research Institute" and joined the governing unit of "Joint Special Fund for Basic Research of Local Universities (Part) in Yunnan Province". Since 2009, it has won 22 national social science fund, natural science fund and art fund projects, 61 provincial-level projects, 318 prefecture-level projects and 45 horizontal projects, and 18 research platform construction projects supported by the central government for the development of local colleges and universities, with a total fund of more than 38.2 million yuan. Published 107 academic works, edited 48 teaching materials and published 4,474 academic papers, including 438 high-level academic papers; Won 4 provincial outstanding achievement awards in philosophy and social sciences, 1 third prize in provincial science and technology progress award and 1 first prize in municipal science and technology progress award.

The University insists on opening up schools, strengthens the construction of "National University", and pays attention to school, school-enterprise, school administration and international cooperation and exchange. Around the development of regional industrial economy, education and culture, and strengthening the border, 121 cooperation agreements have been signed. It has signed counterpart assistance agreements with Xi 'an Jiaotong University, Capital University of Economics and Business, Shanghai Electric Power University and Yunnan University. Signed cooperation agreements with 21 universities in India, Bangladesh, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia and Taiwan Province. In recent years, the school has carried out brand activities such as "China-Myanmar Culture Week" and "Yunnan-Taiwan University Academic and Cultural Exchange Week", and invited teachers and students delegations from Myanmar Consulate General in Kunming, Yangon University, Mandalay University, Myitkyina Jewelry Merchants Association, Shanghai Institute of Arts and Crafts, Taiwan Province Foguang University, International and Cross-Strait Exchange Office, South China University, chaoyang university of technology, etc. to participate, and signed a number of cooperation agreements, which strengthened the school discipline construction and personnel training methods. Established a "China-Myanmar Jewelry Talent Training Base" with Myanmar Jewelry General Merchants Association in Myitkyina, Myanmar, to train professionals in gemstones and jade for Myanmar, trained more than 600 Chinese language teachers in the first northern part of Myanmar, and hosted and co-organized several "Summer (Winter) Camp of China's Root-seeking Tour" and received hundreds of campers.
