Baoji University of Arts and Sciences is a provincial ordinary undergraduate institution of higher learning, formerly known as Baoji University (undergraduate) founded in 1958. It was closed in 1963 due to national economic difficulties, and was restored to Baoji Branch of Shaanxi Normal University (undergraduate) in 1975. It was named Baoji Normal University with the approval of the State Council in 1978, and merged with Baoji University newly established in 1984 with the approval of the former State Education Commission in 1992, and was renamed Baoji University of Arts and Sciences.

In the course of more than 60 years' struggle, generation after generation of liberal arts and sciences people are brave in pioneering, the spirit of liberal arts and sciences is passed down from generation to generation, and the cause of schools is developing healthily and striding forward. In 2008, the school was awarded the title of "Excellent School for Undergraduate Teaching Evaluation in Ordinary Colleges and Universities" by the Ministry of Education. In 2013, the school was approved as the "Master Degree Awarding Unit" of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council; In 2017, the school was included in the project construction plan of the newly added doctoral degree awarding unit by Shaanxi Province; In October 2017, Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education and Baoji Municipal People's Government signed an agreement to jointly promote the school to build Baoji University; In 2018, the school was approved as a "domestic first-class discipline construction university" in Shaanxi Province, and the school stood at a new starting point for development.

The school has three campuses: High-tech Campus, Shigu Campus and Panlong Campus, covering an area of more than 2,800 mu. The library has accumulated more than 3 million books of various types. There are more than 21,000 full-time postgraduates and undergraduates, including nearly 900 postgraduates. There are more than 1,300 faculty members, including more than 1,130 full-time teachers; There are more than 530 teachers with senior professional titles and more than 300 doctors. At the same time, more than 120 famous experts and scholars at home and abroad have been hired as part-time professors or distinguished professor. More than 70 teachers have been awarded provincial and ministerial awards, such as experts with outstanding contributions from the State Council, national outstanding teachers, experts with outstanding contributions from Shaanxi Province, famous teachers in Shaanxi Province and outstanding teachers in Shaanxi Province.

The school has 17 secondary colleges and 64 undergraduate majors, among which 30 majors have been approved as the second bachelor's degree major in ordinary colleges and universities, and 4 majors have been approved as the "Special Project for Local Excellent Teachers" in Shaanxi Province. There is one national specialty; Two majors were identified as national first-class professional construction sites, and 13 majors were identified as provincial first-class professional construction sites. There are 3 provincial famous brand majors, 5 provincial characteristic majors and 4 provincial comprehensive reform pilot majors. There are 16 provincial first-class undergraduate courses; There are 6 provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration centers, 2 provincial-level virtual simulation experimental teaching centers, and 7 provincial-level innovative experimental zones for talent training mode in colleges and universities.

At present, the school has 7 academic master's degree authorization points in Chinese language and literature, chemistry, geography, mathematics, philosophy, physics and education, and 5 professional master's degree authorization points in education master's degree, mechanical engineering, optical engineering, tourism management and art master's degree, covering 46 two disciplines (areas). There are 1 provincial first-class discipline and 6 provincial key disciplines; There are 3 provincial key laboratories, 5 provincial key research bases of philosophy and social sciences, 2 provincial social science popularization bases, 1 provincial popular science education base, 1 provincial popular science research center and 1 provincial creative space. Since the 12th Five-Year Plan, the school has won more than 90 national scientific research projects, more than 500 provincial and ministerial scientific research projects, and more than 40 national teaching achievement awards and provincial and ministerial scientific research awards. Especially in the past three years, the school-running level and strength have been significantly improved, and the number of scientific research projects, scientific research funds, scientific research awards and high-level scientific research achievements has increased greatly.
