Anyang Normal University is located in Anyang City, the hometown of Oracle Bone Inscriptions, the location of Yin Ruins, the spiritual birthplace of Hongqi Canal, a national historical and cultural city and one of the eight ancient capitals of China. It is an ordinary undergraduate university in Henan Province. The school was formerly established in 1908 in anyang normal, Zhangde Mansion, and was named Pingyuan Provincial anyang normal School in 1949. It was renamed Henan Anyang Teachers College in 1958, Anyang First Normal School in 1960, Anyang Teachers College in 1978 and anyang normal College in 1992. In 2000, anyang normal College, Anyang Institute of Education and Anyang Second Normal School merged to form anyang normal College. In 2011, it was approved by the Academic Degrees Office of the State Council as a pilot unit for postgraduate training of master's degree. In 2020, it will become one of the 17 key universities and key discipline construction universities in Henan Province.
