Shandong Youth University Of Political Science was founded in 1949 as Shandong Youth League university, and in 1987, the Shandong Youth Management Cadre College was established with the approval of the former State Education Commission and Shandong Provincial People's Government, and in 2010, Shandong Youth University Of Political Science was established as a full-time undergraduate university with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

In the 73 years since its establishment, the university has not forgotten its original intention, remembered its mission, vigorously inherited and carried forward the red gene, always resonated with the new China, and walked in the same direction, condensed the university motto of "virtuous and talented, self-improvement", formed the university style of "vigorous, practical and realistic", and cultivated the university spirit of "self-improvement, practical and realistic". The university is a provincial civilized campus, and has been awarded the excellent grade in the performance assessment of provincial institutions in Shandong Province in 2019 and 2020, and is one of the first universities supported in the construction of applied undergraduate universities in Shandong Province. The Party committees of two colleges were selected as "National Model Branch of Party Building Work". The Party Committee of the university of Dance was awarded the Advanced Collective of "Innovation Award" of Shandong Province in 2019 and the Advanced Grassroots Party Organization of Shandong Province in 2021. Cultivating "young political talents" is the original intention and mission of the university. In recent years, the university insists on the orientation of application-oriented university, implements the fundamental task of establishing moral education, deeply implements the development strategy of "one strengthening and two expansions", and further strengthens the characteristics of "youth politics" university. There are 9 vocational undergraduate majors, namely Law, Party Work, Big Data Engineering Technology, Marketing, Financial Technology Application, Cross-border E-commerce, Big Data and Financial Management, Tourism Management, Smart Health and Elderly Management. An advanced and open library has been built, with a collection of 1,559,663,000 paper books and 1,310,380,800 electronic books.
